Maria Perez Gonzalez

Maria del Carmen Perez, an educator with 12 years of experience, began her teaching career in Puerto Rico where she oversaw the Spanish team at the school where she taught. During her time as a teacher in Puerto Rico she had the opportunity to attend professional growth seminars in Seattle, Indianapolis, and Guatemala. Maria is currently working as a Team Leader and Spanish teacher in her school’s Dual Language program. Her dedication and vocation as a teacher have led her to seek opportunities for those students who may not have the same advantages as others. She has been nominated two years in a row for the Ida S. Baker Diversity Educator Award by her peers, advancing to compete at the district level.

In the Dual Language program, she seeks to give ELL students as many opportunities as possible to show how great they are and provides students with the tools that will allow them to grow and advance in the acquisition of English as a second language.
Maria believes in working collaboratively with her peers and setting an example for her students. She enjoys maintaining communication with her students’ families and learning as much as she can about the culture and background of her students.
